Five Main Ministries
• Housing for Guest Missions
Practiced in the art of service and hospitality, the Perkins are developing their farm to offer clean, safe and modern accommodations for short term mission teams who have come to serve the people of Nicaragua. The first duplex was completed in the spring of 2009. The farm offers a safe, and recharging retreat in the country yet remains within easy reach of Managua. Completely self contained the beautifully landscaped 8 acre property offers many personal places for meditation, or alone time with God.
Our desire is to incorporate the Training Center with the guest house, allowing the students to cook, serve, and clean for the short term teams staying with us. This way the teams will become a hands on training course for the students, thereby blessing both.
• Hospitality Training
With over 20 years in the hospitality and restaurant industry, Michael and Lisa will now use their experience and God given gifts to train “at risk” youth. We are developing a 1-2 year program in the art of service and sanitation, menu costs and development, English and cooking techniques. The training institute is partnering with local beach resorts and restaurants to offer trained employees to a healthy work environment.
• Monte Fresco/Aduanas 2
Two and a half years ago we targeted a very poor community to start a feeding program and Bible Club. Volunteer moms prepare hot, well rounded, typical meals twice a week. Partnering with a local mom who had shown us that she had a heart for Children’s Ministry, we now use her back yard to prepare and serve the meals as well as run a Bible Club. Short stories, worship and crafts are used to share the love of Christ with these beautiful children and their mothers. We are now working a Aduanas 2 with a small local church. God’s provision has allowed us to use a feeding program as an outreach in the surrounding community.
• The Rio Coco
In January of 2005 the Mustard Seed Missions and the Open Hearts Children's Relief Mission began working with the Miskito people group along the Rio Coco. The Rio Coco forms the northern border between Honduras and Nicaragua and flows deep into the jungles before finding it’s way to the Caribbean coast. Over the last four years Michael has guided many U.S. teams of visiting missionaries deep into the jungle. Construction projects, medical clinics, VBS type programs for children, fresh water systems, and famine relief are a few of the projects that these teams have have been involved in.
• Motorcycles for Missions
Born out of a love to ride, to explore this beautiful country of “lakes and volcanoes” and to share
the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the “Nehemiah Riders” were formed. A partnership between the Mustard
Seed Missions, Missionary Ventures and the Christian Motorcyclists Association is currently building a
stable of large dual sport motorcycles (Kawasaki KLR 650’s). These motorcycles are well suited for
the remote and rough terrain of the Nicaraguan mountains. These bikes have been donated and
brought into the country with the purpose of serving local missionaries.
We often ride at least two days into little known and hard to reach villages to visit and encourage small
local churches. We are thankful for the provision of the “Acclaimer” a solar powered self contained
audio/video unit. Now we will be able to start showing the Jesus Film in these remote areas.
Each year CMA donates small local sized motorcycles to pastors and community leaders throughout
Nicaragua. We offer our stable of bikes for use to the CMA teams to ride into these communities
giving away the local motorcycles.
